Overview

The Hungarian Studies Center offers an intensive two-semester preparatory programme in Hungarian as a foreign language for international students who wish to study at a Hungarian university.

The programme consists of 30 hours of instruction per week: 28 classes (14x90 minutes) of Hungarian as a foreign language and two classes (1x90 minutes) of Hungarian culture lecture on various topics that are held in English. The language instruction includes a) grammar classes; b) speaking with phonetic exercises (in a language lab); c) reading; d) listening and e) writing classes. A special emphasis is placed on vocabulary building in each class according to the needs of the participants. From the beginning of the programme, study skills, presentation techniques and note-taking are taught to develop students’ academic skills for their future university studies.

The preparatory year starts with an orientation week to help students begin their studies in Szeged. At the end of the spring semester, students are eligible for reduced pricing to attend the 4-week intensive Summer University organized by the Hungarian Studies Center.
