Tuition fee | €5,000 per semester The schedule of tuition fee payment is determined on the basis of consulate/visa regulations. In case of applicants coming from visa restricted countries, payment of the full tuition fee (1st and 2nd semester) is required. Details will be indicated in the letter of admission. Tuition fee refund policy: Those who are admitted to the Faculty must arrive within maximum 30 days after the official beginning of the study period and complete their enrolment to the university. The beginning of the study period can be found in the Academic Calendar uploaded to the Faculty website. If they fail to arrive until this deadline, they cannot enrol and cannot start their studies in that particular academic year. Other reasons of no-show are not accepted. No refund is possible if requests are submitted after the deadlines above or the appropriate official document is missing. In case the tuition fee is not refunded, the applicants can start their studies in the semester when the programme is next launched. The entrance exam result is valid for one year after that the applicants have to take a new entrance exam for the admission. By submitting the application to the Faculty, the above mentioned rules are automatically accepted by the applicant, and are no subject to further negotiations. |

Entry qualification | Graduate / Masters' Degree (or higher) fully completed MSc degree in mathematics. Who should apply? We expect applicants to be interested in the research programmes published on our website. Application procedure: evaluation of attached documents (in pdf format; diploma, transcripts, certificate of proficiency in English, two letters of recommendation, earlier creative work in mathematics if any) and a Skype interview. The entry qualification documents are accepted in the following languages: English. Often you can get a suitable transcript from your school. If this is not the case, you will need official translations along with verified copies of the original. Requirements: submitted online application form, MSc degree in a related field, demonstrated proficiency in English (TELC/ECL B2, TOEFL IBT – 72, RPDT – 72, Cambridge FC B, IELTS – 5.5, LanguageCert B2 level), CV, 2 letters of recommendation, individual interview online, during which the applicant’s motivation and research proposal will be examined, and a recent medical certificate of satisfactory general health status (not older than 1 month). For this purpose a document issued by the university has to be uploaded until the application deadline certifying that the medium of instruction was English during the master studies. Overview
The duration of this PhD educational programme is 2+2 years. The students have to complete at least 5 courses. The Bolyai Institute offers 5 general courses (Algebra, Theory of Measure and Integral, Topology, Discrete Mathematics, Probability Theory), 27 basic courses and several dozens of specialised courses. Most lectures are given by members of the Bolyai Institute or, occasionally, by invited experts.
Educational programmes of the Doctoral School include Algebra, Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Geometry, Combinatorics and Theoretical Computational Science, and Stochastics.
Sample research areas: Semigroup theory, Approximation theory and orthogonal polynomials, Numerical solutions, computer simulation of dynamical systems, Theoretical computer science, Asymptotic distributions in probability theory: domains of attraction and partial attraction.
