MAStudy of Religions (in English)

Tuition fee €1,800 per semester

The schedule of tuition fee payment is determined on the basis of consulate/visa regulations. In case of applicants coming from visa restricted countries, payment of the full tuition fee (1st and 2nd semester) is required. Details will be indicated in the letter of admission. After a successful admission process, applicants are expected to arrive and academically register until the third week of September in the fall intake and until the third week of February in the spring intake. Exceptionally, they can still participate in the Academic Registration on the 4th week of the semester. If they fail to arrive by this deadline, they cannot register academically and cannot start their studies in that particular academic year.

In case of visa rejection or other circumstances beyond the applicant’s control which prevent the applicant from starting their studies, a postponement for the next academic year/semester or a full refund can be requested. To request a refund, applicants must submit an official refund request along with the official documentation that proves the reason why they cannot start their studies. Please contact the Registrar’s Office regarding the necessary steps at registrarsoffice.btk@szte.hu.

Overview

The Study of Religions (MA) offers profound studies in the history and social reality of different religions. By applying scientific methods, we teach students about the basics of the subject. The programme provides students with an understanding of the fields of Applied Study, Psychology, Sociology, and History of Religions. Key thinkers on the subject are introduced to provide an overall understanding of the scientific approach to the theory of religions. There is a strong applied aspect of the MA programme as well, as it teaches research methods and combines practice and theory through case studies. During the programme, students develop skills for understanding the main theories on religion and skills for doing applied research and independent research on subjects related to religion.

Research areas cover Religion in CEE , Christian Churches, New Religious Movements, Psychology of Religion, and History of Religions. Graduates of the Faculty usually choose their careers in government, churches, private or international organisations, NGOs. There is also an option to continue PhD studies at the Faculty.
